New bus and coach delivery figures crept towards triple figures in February after a sluggish opening to 2018, exclusive ABC data reveals
Deliveries increased in February 2018, with 91 brand-new buses delivered throughout Australia. This is a big step up compared to January, during which 65 new bus deliveries were reported by manufacturers, representing an increase of 26.
It was a relatively prosperous February compared to previous years, with 80 and 74 sold in 2017 and 2016 respectively.
Volvo once again was the top choice among chassis manufacturers, maintaining the 29 sold in January with the same result in February. It was followed by Scania, which increased its month-on-month deliveries from 15 to 19. BCI also recorded strong numbers, posting16, which was a massive jump from January’s total of four. The rest posted seven or less.
In terms of the body builders, Volgren led the way with 24 deliveries, improving on its January figure of 21. BCI followed with 15, while Bustech recorded 10, with the remainer under double figures.
Thermo King continued its dominance in the air-conditioning market, notching up a half century, in the process improving its last month’s number by 10. Spheros managed 10, with the other manufacturers in the single digits.
For the states, NSW and Victoria were the busiest, each taking up 30 per cent of the pie. Queensland was also busy with 17 per cent, followed by WA (14 per cent) and SA (8 per cent), while the NT recorded a solitary purchase.
