Into the New Year, Daewoo has released a self-steering TAG axle soon to appear in Australia

Daewoo Bus Australia has put the otherwise ‘lazy’ third axle to use with the release of a self-steering tag axle, soon to appear under a Coach Design body in Australia, and also at UBC/Chiron in Malaysia.
As the name suggests, the third ‘tag’ axle on a three-axle chassis derives from ‘tag along’, and is added to support a vehicle’s weight, but doesn’t usually play a steering role.
Asia Motors Director Bruce Campbell announced in December that the new self-steering BH117L3 Daewoo chassis is on its way to Australia, and available with either the DL08K in-line six cylinder engine rated at 250kw, or the DV11K V six, rated at 317Kw (425hp).
He says the chassis is capable of carrying 12.5 metres, 13.7 metre or a 14.3 metre body.
The first two chassis powered with V6 engines are to be fitted with coach bodies at UBC/Chiron in Malaysia.
Recently celebrating its tenth year of operation at a celebration dinner in Penang, UBC/Chiron will use the new chassis to build its first bodies with a 1450mm floor height to accommodate larger luggage capacity required for coach operations.
A further two chassis will be fitted with coach bodies at Coach Design in Brisbane early in 2013.
Campbell says he hopes to secure more orders for the new chassis in 2013.
“They are competitively priced and the equipment level is of a very high technical standard,” he says.
“Korea is now recognised as a world leader in producing high quality, great value products, and Daewoo Bus is no exception,” he says.
