Consultation has begun for new Peninsula bus route

Changes have also been proposed to numerous existing routes

Peninsula residents can soon swap their car keys for a Myki, as a new bus route linking Hastings, Tyabb and Moorooduc residents with key Mornington destinations soon on the way.

The Victorian government has began consultation on the new route, also inviting Peninsula residents to have their say in shaping the plans.

Member for Hastings Paul Mercurio says the new service will be a major benefit for the community.

“The Cross Peninsula Bus Service will enable people in Hastings and surrounds to get across to Mornington directly so they can access all that Mornington has to offer,” he says.

“Access to employment, education, medical facilities, health care, retail shopping, restaurants and much more including connecting to bus services to get further down the peninsula.”

Changes are also proposed to Routes 784 and 785 which offer a more direct and faster link between Mornington and Frankston. This includes Route 784 starting to serve some areas in Mornington, such as retirement villages and the Mornington Racecourse, for the first time.

The changes to the Mornington Peninsula’s bus network are part of Victoria’s Bus Plan which is reshaping the state’s bus network to better meet demand and improve services.

“Through Victoria’s Bus Plan, we’re delivering simple, frequent and affordable public transport across the Mornington Peninsula,” Public transport minister Gabrielle Williams says.

“We promised better bus links in the Peninsula and now we want the community’s input to help shape how that will look.”

Launched just over three years ago, Victoria’s Bus Plan has already improved bus services in more than half of Victoria’s 79 local government areas through the introduction of more than 200 new or improved bus routes.

In just the first three years, 83 local bus networks have been redesigned or strengthened, delivering better coverage and service coordination to meet the changing needs of the communities they service.

Consultation on Hastings and Mornington bus services will close by Sunday September 22 – to have your say, visit engage.vic.gov.au/Hastings-and-Mornington-bus.
