The closure of the Cornwall Square Transit Centre means passengers will have to wait for their service on the street from next week
The recent planned closure of Launceston’s Cornwall Square Transit Centre is set to disrupt many passengers on their daily commutes from May 1.
With bus services still running through Launceston from Devonport, Hobart, Mole Creek and St Helens, commuters will instead be left on the street 200m from the centre to catch the buses.
ABC News says the disruption will occur because the site is privately owned and the tenancy wasn’t renewed, meaning bus services will need to relocate to Charles Street at William Street.
The Tasmanian government says the change doesn’t affect Metro, Manions’, Tassielink or Redline (Kinetic) East Tamar services operated from the Launceston interchange in St John Street and Brisbane Street.

Instead, the Redline Kinetic services on routes 700, 702, 705 and 762 will be impacted, as well as Calow’s Coaches St Helens to Launceston route 740 service.
The interchange will be replaced by a side-of-the-street stop that has public toilets available 200m away and a shelter that will be built.
The Tasmanian government says it’s working to secure a long term location for Intercity, St Helens and Mole Creek services.
