Bus and coach delivery figures rose above the 100 mark again after a solid month from manufacturers, exclusive ABC data reveals.
There were 103 brand-new buses delivered throughout Australia in May, marking the second-best figure to date in 2018 – only five short of March’s peak of 108.
In terms of chassis manufacturers, Volvo maintains top spot, marking 37 deliveries, just short of its best effort of 41 the month prior. Scania remained in second, delivering 21, matching its previous month’s tally. Yutong was one of the strongest-selling manufacturers in May, making 16 sales, its best figure for the year. MAN also hit double figures in a strong month for the brand.
Onto the body builders, Volgren keeps going from strength to strength, continuing its month-on-month growth to notch up 41 deliveries, 10 more than its previous best of 31 in April. Yutong, accompanying its chassis sales, also built 16 bodies, while Bustech too had a prosperous month with 11 builds. The rest of the pie was split amongst 12 body builders.
Thermo King was again the air-conditioning leader, nearly hitting a half century, which is consistent with its monthly figures in 2018. Yutong (14), Denso and Spheros (13 each) had strong months, with Hispacold, Kingtec and Konvekta also involved in May’s sales data.
Just the four states took deliveries this month, but they were all very active – NSW the busiest by far, again almost occupying nearly half the market. Victoria, Queensland and WA were all split fairly evenly on 19, 17 and 14 per cent, respectively.
