Vehicle manufacturer BYD has officially surpassed 60,000 vehicle sales in Australia in under three years, following a record fifth-place finish as one of Australia’s highest-selling automotive brands in June.
The milestone, celebrated at a special handover ceremony for the 60,000 vehicle, signifies BYD’s significant growth within the Australian market and commitment to customers.
The surge in demand follows a record-breaking first half of the year, with June 2025 setting a new high watermark of 8,156 monthly deliveries, a 368 per cent year-on-year growth.

The manufacturer also has more than 40,000 deliveries forecast for 2025 alone.
“Personally, it’s very meaningful. It shows that Australian customers are embracing our vision to Cool the Earth by 1°C. For BYD, 60,000 represents 60,000 families and individuals helping drive the transition to cleaner transport,” BYD founder and president Wang Chuanfu says.
“Australia is a key market for the BYD brand. It’s a highly competitive, advanced automotive market with an educated customer that values innovation, safety, and sustainability.
“Success here is a signal to the world that BYD vehicles can meet and exceed the expectations of mature markets. The learnings we gain from Australia help shape our products and approach globally.”
As the transition to a fully factory backed operation in Australia is finalised, Chuanfu acknowledged the crucial role EVDirect has played in the brand’s Australian success.
