Busways welcomes commuter benefits from Western Sydney bus funding

The bus operator is supportive of the NSW government’s investment into the network across Greater Sydney.

Bus service operator Busways says that commuters are set to benefit massively from the New South Wales government’s recent funding boost into public transport in the state.

Transport minister Jo Haylen and premier Chris Minns were on hand last week to unveil $139.5 million of funding towards NSW’s bus network.

Busways sees the investment as a significant boost for bus growth services, technology, fleet, infrastructure and medium-term planning across greater Sydney.

Managing director Byron Rowe says that it is a much-needed investment into public transport services across an area of Sydney that desperately needs it as it continues to experience exponential population growth and development.

“This will be good for our customers, and we look forward to rolling out these changes over time in partnership with Transport for NSW,” he says.

This funding aims to create more ‘reliable, accurate services’, with upgrades to more than 4000 buses across Greater Sydney.

Busways supports the NSW government’s plans to roll out new electric buses as a part of the funding, as well as its promises to increase services for existing routes and the introduction of new routes.

New bus services to service Western Sydney were announced in May to connect the area to the new airport when complete, including:

  • Liverpool to Bradfield, via Airport (67 minutes)
  • Campbelltown to Airport, via Bradfield (66 minutes)
  • Penrith to Bradfield, via Airport (60 minutes)
  • Mt Druitt to Bradfield, via Airport (60 minutes)
  • Liverpool to Airport via Leppington and Bradfield (55 minutes)

Busways has delivered bus services for 80 years in Australia. Its team of 2800 people currently operates bus service contracts for Transport for NSW all over Greater Sydney, as well as the South Australian Public Transport Authority in Adelaide’s Outer South.
