Bus-based infrastructure on Brisbane’s bayside is being pieced together in anticipation of building the ‘missing link’

The final hook-up of Brisbane’s Eastern Busway from Stones Corner to Capalaba is still years away, but the probable end-point of the busway will be ready with a new park ‘n’ ride to be completed by mid-2012.
Designs for Capalaba’s new park ‘n’ ride has been released with parking for 210 vehicles and a second stage extension for 100 more cars planned when extended busway construction gets underway.
The park ‘n’ ride is funded by the Queensland Government’s $48 million Station Upgrade Program.
Transport Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk says after initial concepts were put out for review last year, feedback from local residents and business was used to produce the final design.
“We’ve been listening to local residents and business to make sure we get the best possible result for the bayside community,” Palaszczuk says.
“The new park ‘n’ ride will offer a safe and comfortable place for locals catching the bus.”
Palaszczuk says the facility will include high-quality shelters, seating, security cameras, lighting and a kiss ‘n’ ride area to drop off and pick up passengers.
“There will also be better and safer access for pedestrians and cyclists, including a bicycle storage area,” she says.
“Part of the project also involves roadworks and new traffic signals on Moreton Bay Road that will give priority to buses while increasing safety for pedestrians in the area.”
Local Member of Parliament Michael Choi says the park ‘n’ ride would offer more convenient travel options for people living in surrounding areas.
“The new Capalaba park ‘n’ ride will give people on the bayside even better access to the outstanding public transport system we have in south east Queensland,” Choi says.
“The existing park ‘n’ ride at the Capalaba Central Shopping Centre is already very popular with locals catching the bus – in fact it’s so popular, it’s operating at capacity.”
