Australia’s BusTech Group is foraying into Dubai following an agreement between Dubai and Queensland
Australian bus manufacturer BusTech Group has continued the industry’s expansion into global forays, signing a deal with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to test zero-emissions electric buses in Dubai’s climate.
The agreement between BusTech Group and the RTA will test the Group’s technologies for operational feasibility in Dubai’s arid environment.
BusTech Group says it is testing its technologies and how it can help Dubai’s customer service experience while allowing the bus to operate as a smart asset that fits in with Dubai’s public transport system.
BusTech Group will assess the buses’ benefits while performing and will use driver and customer feedback to improve its products.
The deal was signed by BusTech Group CEO Dan Marks and RTA CEO Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan.
“BusTech Group is proud to be working in collaboration with Dubai’s RTA on an electric bus trial,” Marks says.
“Off the back of the collaboration between the Queensland government’s Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) and Dubai’s RTA, BusTech Group looks forward to facilitating greater cooperation between Queensland and Dubai and to deploying Australian designed and engineered zero-emissions technology buses into Dubai’s public transport network.”

BusTech Group has operated in Dubai since 2017 and has used one of its electric buses in the shuttle service, as the next generation of zero-emissions buses will be trialled on urban roads.
Bahrozyan says this agreement was the first under the RTA and Queensland TMR department’s memorandum of understanding.
“RTA’s environmental-friendly plans call for increasing the number of electric and hybrid vehicles, improving energy-efficient facilities, upgrading streetlights and reducing waste,” Bahrozyan says.
“It also aims to modify its buildings to achieve carbon neutrality in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050.”
