BusNSW recognises leading bus drivers at annual awards

Four of the state’s best bus drivers have been crowned at BusNSW’s annual Bus Driver of the Year awards ceremony

BusNSW has recognised excellence among the state’s bus drivers at its annual end-of-year function this week.

Held at BusNSW’s offices, the prestigious awards, sponsored by CareSuper, celebrated the dedication and excellence within the state’s bus and coach industry.

BusNSW executive director Matt Threlkeld says the bus driver of the year awards have been significant in recognising outstanding individuals since their inception in 2006.

“As the critical connection between operators and their customers, the industry relies heavily on its drivers to deliver the exceptional level of service expected and valued by the travelling public,” Threlkeld says.

“Bus drivers provide an indispensable service to the community. Every day, a diverse range of people depend on buses for school, work, higher education, health appointments, and social activities.

“These awards celebrate drivers who have consistently demonstrated excellence, significantly enrich the lives of their passengers and earn high regard within their organisations.”

The awards are divided into four categories to acknowledge outstanding drivers from Greater Sydney, Outer-Metropolitan areas, Rural and Regional NSW, and the Coach and Charter sector.

“To qualify for these accolades, nominees must meet specific criteria, including a positive and cooperative approach to their role, exemplary assistance to passengers and colleagues, and a high standard of personal presentation,” Threlkeld says.

“In addition to being polite and friendly to passengers, nominees are also assessed on their safe driving records and courteous interactions with other road users.”

The NSW 2024 Bus Driver of the Year Awards, including certificates and trophies, were presented by Transport for NSW Coordinator-General Howard Collins, BusNSW President John King and representatives from CareSuper, Brooke Goff and Marijana Vulesica.

“Although the four Drivers of the Year come from diverse areas and backgrounds, they all share an exceptional level of empathy and care for their passengers, combined with an unwavering commitment to delivering outstanding customer service,” BusNSW president John King says.

The Greater Sydney Bus Driver of the Year winner was Luca Gerotto from U-Go Mobility.
