BusNSW executive director Matt Threlkeld says this year’s conference will focus on the need for operators, suppliers, and government to keep pace and adapt in an evolving operating environment.
“With the NSW Government addressing the NSW Bus Industry Taskforce reports and recommendations, the renewal of rural and regional contracts in progress, and the transition to zero emission buses accelerating, this year’s conference promises to be a pivotal event,” he says.
“Delivering high quality passenger services requires a productive partnership approach to contracting, a robust regulatory environment, and an effective fleet planning and procurement model.

“As we transition to a zero-emissions bus fleet, continue to tackle staffing challenges, and plan for network and service improvements, it’s more important than ever to exchange ideas, discuss issues, and strategise for the future. Given the industry’s unique role in operating heavy vehicles to serve the public, a number of sessions will concentrate on safety.
“Delegates will have numerous opportunities to participate in the interactive panel sessions and connect with fellow operators and suppliers.”
After the success of last year’s conference, BusNSW president John King is excited for BusNSW to bring the 2024 conference to Western Sydney.
“Western Sydney is a key growth area for the industry, particularly with the Western Sydney International Airport opening in 2026,” King says.
“We are pleased to be able to hold the BusNSW Member Conference at the newly established Western Sydney Conference Centre in Penrith.
“The conference is deliberately scheduled during the school holidays to allow our large proportion of members involved with the operation of school bus and charter services an opportunity to attend.
“BusNSW as a member-based organisation that supports operators and provides connections with suppliers and government.
“Our member conference is a highlight of our events calendar and I know many operator and supplier members are looking forward to reconnecting over the two days.
“I encourage members to register for the conference and book accommodation early to avoid disappointment.”
The event includes Conference Sessions and a Welcome Function on Wednesday 9 October and a full day Conference and Conference Dinner on Thursday 10 October 2024.
Conference Program Highlights include: Minister’s address and keynote speaker, Bus Industry Taskforce recommendations, Transport for NSW projects and operations, Rural and Regional Contract Renewal, Zero Emission Bus Transition and New Technology, Staff Recruitment and IR Reforms and Bus Safety and Regulation.
