Passengers on the South Coast Line are being urged to plan ahead, with buses set to replace trains between Thirroul and Sutherland for eight days from Friday July 11 to Friday July 18.
During the shutdown, express buses will operate between Wollongong, North Wollongong, and Sutherland, where passengers can connect with T4 Illawarra Line services to the city. Regular T4 trains will continue running between Bondi Junction and Cronulla and Waterfall.

Sydney Trains will undertake critical upgrades and essential maintenance work along the line, aiming to improve resilience and reliability on a route known for weather-related disruptions due to challenging terrain.
The planned works include ballast cleaning between Waterfall and Coalcliff, embankment and cutting works at Waterfall and Scarborough, track maintenance at Helensburgh, as well as drainage, vegetation management, and inspections and repairs of electrical, signal, and track assets.
Sydney Trains says carrying out the works during the school holidays will help minimise disruption to commuters.
“Sydney Trains apologises for the inconvenience and thanks passengers for their patience as we carry out this essential work,” a Transport for NSW statement reads.
