Bus and coach deliveries were more than 10 percent lower in May than the corresponding month of 2009.

Deliveries numbered 134 in the month, compared with 150 in May of last year, according to new figures compiled by ABC.

Year to date, deliveries, at 675, are a little under 6 percent off the 718 vehicles delivered in the first five months of 2009.

Underpinning the May number were large deliveries to Busways Blacktown (13 MANs), Transperth (11 Mercedes-Benz), NSW State Transit Authority (13 Volvos) and Brisbane City Council (13 Volvos).

Topping the chassis deliveries leader board was Volvo (40), ahead of Mercedes-Benz (27), Scania (23), MAN (18), BCI (12), Hino (6), Daewoo (3) and White-Higer (3).

Volgren supplied the most bus bodies in May (41), followed by Custom Coaches (33), Bustech (13), BCI (12), Mills-Tui (7), and Chiron/UBC, Coach Design and Irizar (5 each).

Thermo King kept top spot in the air-conditioning market, with a dominant 65 units, followed by Coachair (24), Denso (22), Carrier (9) and Hispacold (5).

Schools/charter (58 percent) and city/route (41 percent) again accounted for the vast amount of deliveries.
