Bus and coach deliveries dipped marginally in March, according to new figures compiled by ABC.
Deliveries numbered 147 in the month, down 4 percent on the 153 units delivered in March of last year.
Year to date, deliveries, at 416, are just one unit off the 417 delivered in the first three months of 2009.
Underpinning the March result were large deliveries to Queensland operators: Brisbane City Council (20 Volvos) and Transit Australia (8 Bustechs); Action Bus in Canberra (10 MANs and 3 Scanias); and Transperth (10 Mercedes-Benz) and KJVG (5 Ivecos) in WA.
Topping the chassis deliveries leader board was Volvo (51), ahead of Mercedes-Benz (21), MAN and Scania (17 each), BCI (11), Bustech (8), Iveco (8), Hino (7), White-Higer (5) and Daewoo (2).
Volgren supplied the most bus bodies in March (57), followed by Custom Coaches (33), Biustech (12) and BCI (11).
Thermo King kept top spot in the air-conditioning market, with a dominant 98 units, followed by Coachair (16), Denso (15), Carrier (9) and Kingtec (5).
Schools/charter accounted for 50 percent of deliveries, while some 49 percent of deliveries were for city/route buses.
A majority of deliveries were to Queensland operators (35 percent), ahead of Victoria (24 percent), NSW (22 percent), and WA (18 percent).
