Bus and coach topped 130 in August, up around 6.5 percent on the previous corresponding month of 2008 but down significantly on the 152 vehicles delivered in July and the record 242 delivered in June.

In the year to date, deliveries are still up a very healthy 41.5 percent on the same period of last year, with 1,254 vehicles delivered so far (versus 886 in 2008), according to new figures compiled by ABC.

Driving the market higher were large deliveries to CDC in NSW (24 Scanias), Transperth (8 Mercedes-Benz), PTD in South Australia (8 Scanias), Ventura in Victoria (6 MANs), Brisbane City Council (6 MANSs) and Sunbus North in Queensland (10 Bustechs).

Scania topped the deliveries list in July with 43 vehicles, followed by BCI (22), MAN (15), Mercedes-Benz (13), Volvo (12), Bustech (11), Iveco (8) and Hino (5).

By body, Volgren came out on top with 44 deliveries, ahead of Custom Coaches (24), BCI (22), Bustech (11), Coach Design (6), Designline (6), Express (5) and Coach Concepts (4).

Denso topped the air-conditioning market, with 28 units, followed by Thermo King (27), Carrier (26), Cooltek (25), Coachair (18) and Kingtec (5).

Notably, 70 percent of deliveries were for route/city buses; while school buses accounted for 22 percent of deliveries, and charter and long distance 8 percent.

Most deliveries were to NSW operators (40 percent), ahead of Queensland (23 percent), Victoria (16 percent), WA (12 percent), South Australia (7 percent) and Tasmania (2 percent).
