Bus and coach deliveries topped 151 in April of this year, almost 40 percent up on the same month of last year, according to new figures compiled by ABC.

Deliveries data received from major manufacturers – excluding Denning – show registrations reached 151 in the month, compared with 110 in April of 2008 and just under the 153 deliveries recorded in March.

In the year to date, deliveries are up a whopping 65.6 percent on the same period of last year, with 568 vehicles delivered so far (versus 343 in 2008).

Driving the market higher were large deliveries to Ventura Bus Company in Victoria (15 MAN’s), Brisbane City Council (14 MAN’s), PTD in SA (9 Scania’s), CDC in NSW (8 Scania’s), NSW State Trasnsit (7 Mercedes-Benz’s), Transperth (7 Mercedes-Benz’s), Veoilia Queensland (6 Mercedes-Benz’s), and Surfside on the Gold Coast (6 Bustech’s).

MAN topped the deliveries list in April with 35 vehicles, followed by Mercedes-Benz (30), Scania (23), BCI (21), Bustech (16) and Volvo (15).

By body, Volgren came out on top with 37 sales, just ahead of Custom Coaches (34), BCI (21), Bustech (19), Designline (15), Mills-Tui (9) and North Coast Bus and Coach (3).

Notably, 60 percent of deliveries were for route/city buses; while school buses accounted for 28 percent of deliveries, and charter and long distance 12 percent.
