Bus deliveries take slight breather in October

It was a slightly quieter month towards the end part of the year – but with a silver lining, exclusive ABC data reveals.

Bus and coach deliveries took a slight breather in October, landing at a final figure of 105.

The bad? it marks the second lowest figure of the year, below the now average of 120.

The good? to put it into context, it’s still another month over three figures, making it a perfect 10 so far in 2019, especially as we head into the end part of the year.

Volvo (45) regained top spot from fellow Swede Scania (39) at the top of the chassis table in October. By our count, the yearly race sees the former lead the latter 409 vs. 349, a fairly tight contest between the pair. Seven more makers fought it out this month, none recording more than six deliveries.

The body-building sector saw a couple of challengers take away from Volgren’s usual dominance. It remained at the top, but month-on-month numbers dropped from its yearly high of 56 to 36. Gemilang – by virtue of a big Transdev order – and Bustech followed on 18 each. Twelve more builders were recorded this month.

In a parallel for the air-conditioners, Thermo King’s tally was clawed back a bit as well, recording 46 deliveries (down from 67 and 69). Coachair was next on 23, also part of the particular Transdev order, while Spheros also had a strong month with 20.

Victoria was again the busiest of the states, recording 32 per cent of deliveries. NSW was not far behind on 30 per cent, with Queenland and WA the next tier at 20 and 14 per cent, respectively. Tasmania also featured with 4 per cent.
