September deliveries continue robust path

Another tally in the 120s makes for an optimistic month, exclusive ABC magazine bus delivery data reveals.

Bus and coach deliveries reached a figure 122 in September, which may be another slight dip on the previous month, but would easily be one of the highest numbers in previous years, underscoring the strong results in 2019.

In fact, 122 is now the exact average monthly figure this year, a high benchmark indeed for these pages.

Swedes Scania and Volvo were well ahead of the pack in September, with the former falling just short of a half century – comprising a large Transdev order of 29 units – while the latter notched up 41. Mercedes-Benz was the only other maker to hit double figures in September.

For the body builders, Volgren went from strength to strength, recording its top number for the year thus far, 56, surpassing July’s previous best of 53. Gemilang, servicing one of the Transdev orders, reached its high of 14 builds for the third month this year. Custom Bus and BCI also hit double figures.

For the air-conditioners, Thermo King just missed out on last month’s best of 69, settling for 67. No other maker reached 10; however, this month’s figure was also affected by 21 unreported deliveries.

Victoria was back on top in the state charts, accounting for 33 per cent of the market, while NSW followed on 28 per cent. WA again had a relatively busy month on 18 per cent, while ACT gets a rare mention with 4 per cent.
