Bus deliveries still strong despite slight ease

August’s tally dips slightly from record months, but still tracks strongly, exclusive ABC data reveals.

Despite a dip on the past two months, August’s bus and coach delivery figures were still a positive for industry, reaching 129 for the month.

While it was a case of ‘what goes up must come down’ after 153 and 151 deliveries in July and June, August still marks the third-best monthly figure in 2019.

On the manufacturers’ side, this number was largely driven by Scania and Volvo, accounting for more than 100 of the total deliveries. In particular, Scania’s 53 was its best for the year. Mercedes-Benz was the other maker to post double figures.

The body building segment was again dominated by Volgren, surpassing the half-century, but falling just two shy of its best tally last month. Twelve more builders were recorded in a competitive market, ranging from one to 15 deliveries. Gemilang’s 14 was its top figure for the year.

Thermo King reigned supreme in the air-conditioning market, with its 69 marking its highest number for the year and comprising more than half the numbers. Eleven more brands also fought it out for the remainder. It should be noted that there 16 unreported deliveries this month, affecting the final figure.

NSW was back on top again as the busiest state, occupying 40 per cent of all deliveries. Victoria was also strong on 30 per cent, while Queensland was quieter on 8 per cent.
