DELIVERIES BOUNCE BACK

Having eased slightly last month, numbers are back over the century mark in October, exclusive ABC data reveals

Bus and coach deliveries have recovered from last month’s dip, increasing from 90 to 103. That result makes it seven months out of 10 in 2018 that participating manufacturers have recorded triple-figure deliveries, in what must be considered a positive for industry.

A big surprise for chassis makers this month was Scania, with 43 deliveries, toppling fellow Swede Volvo from the top of the pile, which had an uncharacteristically quiet month on 22. BCI and Yutong had relatively strong months, both posting double figures. ABC magazine also welcomes Challenger Bus and Coach to the deliveries section.

For the body builders, Volgren retained its spot at the top, noted in 30 deliveries, but the names below made for interesting reading. Gemilang had its best number of the year on 15, while BCI and Yutong matched their chassis tallies, and 14 more builders were involved in a competitive field.

It was generally business as usual though for the air-con suppliers as Thermo King reigned supreme, occupying nearly half the market. Spheros had a strong month as well on 20, while six more makers also fought it out for a slice of the market.

New South Wales was again the busiest state in terms of demand (36 per cent), with Victoria busier than in recent times on 26 per cent, and Queensland and Western Australia sharing 15 per cent each.
