Deliveries drop

After two months of solid growth, the number of new buses delivered to operators took a small dip last month, exclusive ABC data reveals

Deliveries drop
The number of buses delivered by all manufacturers was down in June, compared to May 2017

Deliveries decreased in June 2017 with 91 brand new buses delivered throughout Australia. This comes very close to May 2017, during which 93 new bus deliveries were reported by manufacturers, representing a decrease of two vehicles.

This June delivery number stacks up pretty well compared to the exact same 91 new buses delivered in June last year.

Volvo had a slower month, its deliveries decreasing from 37 in May to 28 in June, followed by Scania’s 23, which was up on last month’s 21.

BCI had a strong month, reporting nine deliveries for the month of June – up from six in May. Most other manufacturers delivered less than seven vehicles respectively, with Optare back in the game with seven deliveries reported.

The body builders posted slightly weaker results overall, with Volgren leading the way on 22, though that figure was down a fair way on the 27 reported in May.

Custom Bus had a strong showing with 12, up slightly from 11 the month before. The majority of other builders delivered less than nine vehicles respectively.

For air-conditioning suppliers, Thermo King units were included in the delivery of 48 buses nationwide, a slight decrease on 49 just a month earlier. Spheros had a strong month in June, involved in the delivery of 15 units.

Sutrak also had a good month with seven, a major improvement on none in May.

New South Wales led the states with 35 per cent, followed by Victoria (22 per cent), Queensland (19 per cent), Western Australia (14 per cent), South Australia (8 per cent) and Nothern Territory and Tasmania (1 per cent each). See overleaf to read Australian bus delivery information for June.
