Market shows strength
The number of buses delivered by all manufacturers was up in May, compared to April 2017

Deliveries increased in May 2017 with 93 brand new buses delivered throughout Australia.

This compares well with April 2017, during which 86 new bus deliveries were reported by manufacturers, representing an increase of seven vehicles.

This May delivery number stacks up well compared to the 85 new buses delivered in May last year.

Volvo had a slower month, its deliveries decreasing from 43 in April to 37 in May, followed by Scania’s 21, which was also down on last month’s 25.

MAN had a strong month, reporting six deliveries for the month of May – up from four in April.

Most other manufacturers delivered less than six vehicles respectively, with Yutong increasing month-on-month from two to six.

The body builders were busy, with Volgren leading the way on 27, though that figure was down a fair way on the 36 reported in April.

Custom Bus had a strong showing with 11, up significantly from six the month before.

The majority of other builders delivered less than eight vehicles respectively.

For air-conditioning suppliers, Thermo King units were included in the delivery of 49 buses nationwide, a slight increase on 43 just a month earlier. Spheros had a strong month in May, involved in the delivery of 20 units. Hispacold also had a good month with nine, which is up from its total of seven in April. Denso and Yutong were involved in the delivery of six each.

New South Wales led the states with 32 per cent, followed by Victoria (27 per cent), Queensland (23 per cent), Western Australia (12 per cent), South Australia (6 per cent) and Nothern Territory (1 per cent).
