Deliveries bounce back

After low point for bus and coach deliveries in September, supply has almost returned to double digits for October

After low point for bus and coach deliveries in September, supply has almost returned to double digits for October.

Deliveries suffered in September, which was disappointing after having a stellar few months of above-average numbers.

Coming from 88 deliveries in September, October saw 97 buses delivered, representing a hike of about 10 per cent.

This is a strong result as we near the end of 2016, especially considering there were no delivery totals above 86 from January to right through until May, it remains to be seen whether figures for the next two months will remain high or trail off.

For suppliers, the vast majority of deliveries were Scanias (31), followed by Volvos (29).

Yutong was the biggest surprise in terms of manufactures, reporting just five deliveries for the month of October 2016. This represents a significant drop, when weighed against the nine brand new buses that the Chinese manufacturer delivered in the month before.

Body builder Volgren led the way by a vast margin with 36, which was slightly down on the huge 40 reported in September. Bustech had a very strong showing with 14, compared to just two bodies the month before.  Irizar also had a good month and increased its number to eight, way up from its two deliveries in September. Custom Bus saw a significant decrease from being involved in the delivery of 14 buses in September, to just seven in October.

Thermo King posted huge number in October and was its units were included in the delivery of 52 buses nationwide, just edging out the 50 it notched up in September. Coachair had a strong month and was involved in the delivery of 13 buses. Hispacold doubled its numbers from the previous month, going from five in September, to 10 units in October.

Victoria led the way when looking at deliveries on a state by state basis with 31 per cent, followed by New South Wales (29 per cent) and Queensland (25 per cent). Western Australia had a relatively weak moth in terms of bus deliveries, with just 12 per cent.
