Police have laid charges after a bus driver was allegedly assaulted by a passenger at Haberfield, Sydney, on Friday night

Police have laid charges after a bus driver was allegedly assaulted by a passenger at Haberfield, Sydney, on Friday night (November 13).

The incident occurred about 6pm when the 64-year-old bus driver arrived at the final stop of his route at Ramsey Street at Haberfield and woke a passenger, who had fallen asleep.

Police allege the 17-year-old passenger repeatedly punched the driver in the head while he was sitting in the driver’s seat.

A number of bystanders entered the bus and attempted to restrain the teenager.

One of them was allegedly bitten on the thigh.

The bus driver suffered facial bruising and was treated at the casualty section of Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

Police attended the scene shortly after and arrested the youth following a brief struggle.

The teenager from Gladesville has been charged at Campsie Police Station and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault, offensive conduct, goods in custody, fail to pay bus fare, and resist police.
