The surge in public transport patronage continues to underpin strong growth in bus and coach sales, according to ABC’s new and improved Deliveries section.
Based on data supplied by major manufacturers, total deliveries for October, at 135 units, were 23.85 percent higher than in the corresponding month of 2007.
This maintains strong growth evident throughout this financial year, with deliveries in the five months to October up by 20.5 percent — from 586 to 706 — on the comparable period of 2007.
In October deliveries were underpinned by the receival of big orders from key metropolitan bus operators, including Surfside on the Gold Coast (13), Brisbane City Council (7), National Bus Company in Victoria (21), Transperth (13), the NSW State Transit Authority (13) and Veolia Transport in NSW (6).
MAN and Mercedes Benz accounted for more than half the deliveries in the month, with the former bolstered by the delivery of 21 units to National Bus Company; followed by Bustech (11.85 percent), Hino and Volvo (9.62 percent each), BCI (7.4 percent), Scania (6.6 percent), Daewoo (2.96 percent) and Iveco (1.48 percent).
