Bus deliveries finish on a high in 2019

December rounded off a solid year for the Australian bus industry, exclusive ABC data reveals.

Strong delivery numbers in December have rounded out a mostly productive 2019 for the bus and coach industry in Australia.

The final figure of 123 took the calendar year’s tally to 1445 at an average of 120 per month, well over three figures each month.

For the chassis manufacturers, Volvo again topped December’s figures (41) and cemented its market leadership for the year. Scania, which celebrated a record year, followed in second place overall and for December as well (37). Mercedes-Benz (18) and BCI (12) also cracked double figures, and it’s worth noting that Yutong recorded the delivery of its fully electric E12 model, a first-ever reported electric vehicle in this section.

For the body builders, Volgren led for an 11th consecutive month, albeit its final tally (35) was slightly down on last month’s 46. Bustech also had a solid month on 22, with Custom Bus recording its highest number for the year (20).

In one of the closest months at the top for the air conditioners, Thermo King again reigned supreme on 47; however, Spheros fell only eight behind with 39, rounding out 2019 well ahead of any other month. Hispacold was the only other to reach double figures.

A fairly unsurprising state chart saw NSW lead the deliveries with 33 per cent, followed by Victoria and Queensland with 25 and 21 per cent, respectively, with the remaining states and territories making up the rest of the pie.
