Bus and coach deliveries topped 153 in March of this year, according to new figures compiled by ABC.

Deliveries data received from major manufacturers – excluding Denning – show registrations were up by 31.8 percent on the corresponding month of 2008, when manufacturers delivered 116 units.

This is significantly ahead of last month’s total of 130 and the 134 units delivered in January.

Mercedes-Benz maintained its market leadership with 38 deliveries in March, followed by Volvo (35), Scania (20), MAN (18), BCI (15), Bustech (9), Iveco (7) and Hino (6).

Driving the market higher were large deliveries to Brisbane City Council (13 MAN’s), NSW State Transit Authority (19 Mercedes-Benz’s and 8 Volvo’s), SA’s PTD (10 Scania’s), Sunbus (nine Bustech’s), Transperth (eight Mercedes-Benz’s) and Clark’s in Queensland (six Volvo’s).

Notably, 64 percent of deliveries were for route/city buses, up from 46 percent in the previous month. School buses accounted for 25 percent of deliveries, down from 40 percent previously.
