Brisbane’s Lord Mayor has revealed bus patronage is up by more than a quarter in the city over the past two years as Brisbane prepares to host the 2032 Olympic Games.
Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner says a combination of measures have seen the city’s bus patronage increase by 27 per cent over the past two years.
“Together with Brisbane’s New Bus Network and 50c fares, Brisbane Metro has helped drive a 27 per cent increase in bus patronage across our city over the past two years – a result unmatched by any other Australian city,” he says.

In the first year alone of the Brisbane Metro, the new rapid bus network has carried more than 6.8 million passenger trips.
This is combined with the Adelaide Street tunnel opening and the arrival of Brisbane’s new bus network, which has seen 1,400 bus services travel underground each weekday.
“Affordable fares, improved frequencies and better travel times are changing how people move around Brisbane, reducing congestion and strengthening connections across our city,” Schrinner says.
“These results show what can be achieved when council, state and federal governments work together to deliver practical, city-shaping transport that supports Brisbane today and into the future.”
