The Brisbane Lord Mayor has weighed in on which option he prefers ahead of the Brisbane Olympics in 2032
The Brisbane Times says two separate bus network options are being considered in order to extend the Brisbane Metro system before the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.
With the first two legs of the Brisbane Metro set to be operating by the end of 2024, including 60 electric articulated rapid buses, the state is now looking at how to expand the service.
The Brisbane Times says the first option for the extension is to use the Airport Link tunnel from Herston’s Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Metro stop directly to the airport.
However the second option looks at extending the CityGlider gold bus route between the Gabba and Hamilton Northshore, where the future athletes’ village will be, to the airport.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner told the Brisbane Times he was pitching the second option to the Queensland government.
“We think the gold CityGlider – between the Gabba and the airport – can also be one of the most popular routes in the city,” Schrinner told the Brisbane Times.
“We just need to get that state government approval to proceed.”
Yet Schrinner says he still sees no issues with the first option and using the Airport Link tunnel for the extended network.
