BIC submits Queensland Electrical Safety Act response

BIC has submitted its response to the proposed Queensland act review, with a member survey reinforcing its perspective

In an exciting update from the Bus Industry Confederation (BIC), it yesterday submitted its response to the Queensland government’s proposed Electrical Safety Act review.

Earlier this month, both BIC and the Queensland Bus Industry Council (QBIC) combined to push back against proposed changes to the act that would have major implications for the state’s bus and coach companies, including making manufacturers able to only use licensed electrical fitters or electricians to work on high-voltage powertrains.

BIC issued a survey to its members to see what they would like to suggest in the response, with BIC grateful to everyone who participated in the survey.

“We are thrilled to share that the survey results strongly align with our submission,” BIC says.

“An overwhelming 97 per cent of respondents voiced their agreement on the importance of upskilling existing technicians and industry as we embrace new technology.”

BIC says this support reinforces the global trend towards prioritising the upskilling efforts seen in similar industries, with BIC wanting to champion a progressive approach that ensures the Australian workforce is equipped to tackle the challenges and opportunities ahead.

“We extend our thanks to all the participants who took the time to share their valuable insights,” BIC says.

“Your voices matter and they help shape our collective stance on these crucial matters. Your engagement is an essential part of driving positive change within our industry.”

BIC is now focusing on working together towards a future where innovation and safety go hand in hand, starting with the refusal of proposed changes to the Electrical Safety Act.

“Stay tuned for updates on the progress of the Electrical Safety Act review and our ongoing efforts to support the growth and development of our industry,” BIC says.
