In its monthly bulletin to members, the Bus Industry Confederation (BIC) has updated what it has been working on recently.
On a daily basis, the BIC Council and Secretariat have been advocating on behalf of the industry, whether it be through calls, emails and meetings with senior bureaucrats or by lobbying to politicians.
On other occasions, BIC has been acting as the lone voice for the bus and coach industry at heavy vehicle industry stakeholder meetings.
This includes meeting with Queensland transport minister Mark Bailey to discuss the supply chain, hyperinflation and the skill shortage crisis impacting manufacturers and suppliers while also having a flow-on effect to operators.
BIC says the minister has agreed to work with the industry to look at ways the Queensland government can assist.
The BIC also recently presented its views and concerns on the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) reform agenda to the recently formed steering committee.
The committee was formed by infrastructure and transport ministers to oversee the implementation of legislative and non-legislative reforms to the HVNL and is comprised by various transport departments in Tasmania, Queensland, NSW and the Commonwealth.
Finally, on behalf of the industry, BIC Chair Tony Hopkins attended a ministerial roundtable for the heavy vehicle industry, hosted by senator Carol Brown.
Key topics raised included the decarbonisation of the heavy vehicle industry, reforms to national heavy vehicle laws, engaging with governments across the country and the long-term viability of the industry.
