Auckland Explorer Bus adds three double decker buses for summer restart

The iconic Auckland Explorer Bus is back with a bang this summer as it adds three new double decker buses to its fleet

Auckland’s iconic hop-on hop-off sightseeing tour Explorer Bus is gearing up as international tourism returns to the city, with the introduction of a new fleet of three open-top double-decker buses.

Operating an hour-long circuit, the distinctive yellow Auckland Explorer Buses visit some of the city’s top attractions including Kelly Tarlton’s, Auckland War Museum and many more.

The popular hop-on hop-off sightseeing route will for the first time include Newmarket, Auckland’s premier fashion, shopping and entertainment precinct, giving visitors a chance to explore more than 600 retail stores.

After a two-year absence, the new vehicles provide additional capacity for the encouraging number of cruise ship passengers expected to arrive over the summer.

Entrada Travel Group CEO John Thorburn says the team is keen to get going.

“We are incredibly excited about restarting Explorer Bus and providing visitors with a convenient way to hop-on and hop-off at attractions across the city, while learning what makes this such a great city to live in through an entertaining commentary,” Thorburn says.

The new buses have been acquired from Hassle Free Tours, who have also sold ownership of the Soaring Kiwi brand which operated tours in Auckland until March 2020.

Explorer Buses depart at 30-minute intervals, and the one-hour loop provides convenient access to popular attractions around the city.

Tickets provide 24 or 48-hours access to the route and prices start from just $50 per adult. A range of bus and attraction combos are also available, offering savings and skip-the-line access.
