Order has been restored to a Circular Quay bus service, reviving an old route to relieve an arduous walk

East Sydney residents will now have a direct bus link to Circular Quay, with Route 311 bus services to be extended from the end of October.
From Sunday October 28, a 12-month trial will begin on Route 311 now being extended to Circular Quay, and some services then running through to The Rocks and Millers Point.
NSW Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian says the state government had listened to the east Sydney community, who had asked for a direct link to Circular Quay.
“Several years ago Route 311 was pulled back a couple of blocks from Circular Quay to Gresham Street, in an effort to reduce bus parking congestion at The Quay,” Berejiklian says.
“However, this impacted some Route 311 customers from Elizabeth Bay and Woolloomooloo, who found the walk between to Circular Quay quite arduous.
“I’m pleased that we are now reconnecting these customers with Circular Quay and providing a further option for travel through to The Rocks.”
The extension of the route is viewed as a win for Elizabeth Bay and Kings Cross residents as well as bonus for Millers Point residents, providing a direct link to east Sydney, including St Vincents Hospital.
From October 28, every second morning-peak service and every daytime service on Route 311 will operate to Millers Point via Circular Quay. After 8pm, all 311 services will operate just to Circular Quay.
Route 311 currently operates between Railway Square (Central Station) and the City (Gresham Street) via Darlinghurst, Kings Cross, Elizabeth Bay, Woolloomooloo and Hyde Park.
