Almost 3,000 buses and trucks inspected

Authorities have inspected more than 2,800 buses and trucks in under four weeks, as part of Operation Austrans

Authorities have inspected more than 2,800 buses and trucks in less than four weeks since Operation Austrans started.

The operation is now in its fourth week and is running across Australia and New Zealand, focusing on compliance in the heavy vehicle industry.

Police traffic and highway patrol officers, and Roads and Maritime Service (RMS) inspectors have noted 249 speeding offences, 155 seat belts? offences, and 57 unlicensed drivers.

Acting Superintendent Mark Crelley says he is concerned.??

“Despite having over 1,200 highway patrol officers on duty throughout Operation Stay Alert during the Queen’s Birthday long weekend to ensure motorists got to and from their destinations safely, issues concerning heavy vehicle compliance were still apparent,” Crelley says.
