New GPS camera launched

New dash camera with GPS tracking aimed at small to medium sized bus operators released

International Location Systems (ILS) has launched a new GPS dashboard mounted camera, ideal for city-route bus applications recently.

ILS is an Australian technology company started five years ago by Justin Wright, Gary Clark and Mario Veronese.

The Roamio Active GPS Dash Cam is the organisations first foray into the Australian public transport market and ISL co-director Mario Veronese is excited about the launch.

“Our core competency is in designing and manufacturing GPS tracking products,” he says

“Recently we saw a need for a dash cam that can be used by professional drivers to not only provide them with video evidence for any incidents they may be involved in, but also deliver real-time GPS tracking of their vehicle.”

The product differs from others on the market, mostly by being more accurate.

“While there are many dash cams which offer GPS tracking, all of them are passive GPS devices that only add GPS derived location data to the video recorded during the journey,” Veronese says.

“The Roamio dash cam is the only commercially available unit to combine the best of traditional dash cams with the latest in active, real-time 3G GPS tracking technology.”

ILS spent many hours researching the requirements for the transport market, both in the USA and Australia by speaking to drivers, dispatchers and fleet owners to determine what features they wanted before bringing it to the market.

Operators want accurate and sharp video capture with location and time-coding, regular location updates, quick and easy replay of footage and affordability – so these have been key focus points.

The inclusion of a 3G mobile phone module in the Roamio dash cam delivers location updates every 60 seconds to secure backend servers, which then provide operators with easy to read graphical information online and via a dedicated smartphone app.

The product is intended for sole and small operators, who may not have access to, or be able to afford expensive, tailor-made CCTV and GPS tracking systems.
