The National Road Transport Hall of Fame has won a sponsor for its 2002 activities - Shell Rimula. The Alice Springs based Hall of Fame hosts a week of activities from August 24 hailing trucking pioneers. It is a Year of the Outback event and is expected to attract more than 5000 trucking pioneers, drivers and operators. The event will include the Hall of fame inductions, recognising outstanding Australians who have contributed to road transport. They are featured on the wall of fame, also sponsored by Shell Rimula, the diesel engine oil manufacturer. Shell project coordinator Graham Hepworth says the Hall of Fame is an ideal project to support given Shell's role in the development of road transport. The Hall of Fame is the major activity of the Road Transport Historical Society Inc; a non-profit community group relying on volunteer labour to rebuild and maintain the trucks in the collection, and the facility which is becoming a major tourist attraction in central Australia.
