New low sulphur diesels can be swapped between brands and processors without harming engines. At the BAV Melbourne maintenance conference, Mobil technical manager Geoff Davis says tests on the varying types of low emission diesels have shown that they can be mixed. Concern has been expressed that the ultra-low sulphur diesel produced by BP, the low sulphur diesel from Shell and Caltex and the Cleanerburn diesel from Mobil would not be compatible. Davis says that Mobil's Cleanerburn was only approved after extensive testing convinced the federal government that it could be mixed with the other forms of diesels and still achieve low emissions.
