Australia holds the "world record" for taxes levied on home and fire (business) insurance.
A comparison by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu shows that the equivalent of ‘sin taxes' – that is, the large taxes applied to the likes of smoking, drinking and gambling – are applied by most state and territory governments to business and home insurance.
