NZs inter-city boost

New Zealand operator puts on more services to meet demand for long distance coach travel

Inter-city bus travellers in New Zealand will soon be spoilt for choice, with more services between top destinations added to meet ongoing demand and just in time for summer.

New Zealand’s InMotion Group has added a morning service between Auckland and Wellington and a new overnight service from Christchurch to Queenstown, it announced this week.

“We’ve made a call to increase frequency and extend the timetable as we know a comprehensive range of offers is what ultimately matters most to travellers,” ManaBus.com and nakedbus.com CEO Sheryll Otway says.

The added Christchurch to Queenstown service should make coach travel an attractive option for more wanting to enjoy a weekend getaway in the South Island.

“It’s the perfect proposition for those not wanting to miss out on a full 48 hours in their destination of choice,” Otway says.

There will also be two journeys each day between Napier and Wellington and vice versa, and the addition of more services has come in response to steady patronage increases around the country.

Twelve daily journeys each way between Hamilton and Auckland are being utilised by regular commuters as well as visitors, as the drive is subject to heavy traffic for private vehicles and the cost of parking is in Auckland is increasing.

Further north, access to Auckland has also been opened up with a daily early morning service from Whangarei to the Auckland’s CBD and an additional night service from Auckland to Paihia via Whangarei.

ManaBus.com also plans to introduce a number of new buses to its fleet, as part of a $9 million commitment to the growing market.
