Adelaide residents are being encourage to attend transport forums to be held by the State Government
The South Australia State Government is planning a series of forums to encourage the public to have their say on current transport issues.
The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) is encouraging people in Adelaide’s north-eastern suburbs to attend an upcoming forum this week, and the event at Tea Tree Gully Tafe Campus will be the first of many transport forums.
The forums are to provide an opportunity for members of the public to find out more about key initiatives and projects to improve transport in the state.
Transport minister Stephen Mullighan will join DPTI chief operating officer Paul Gelston, local Members of Parliament and other senior staff from the department at the first event.
“It is important that people have the opportunity to ask questions about transport projects and plans in areas where they live, travel and work,” Gelston says.
“This forum will enable people to question senior decision makers and also to share their views about the transport issues that matter to them.”
Gelston says a wide range of topics will be open to discussion at the forum – including roads and road safety, registration and licensing, and public transport services.
“For example, the recently announced Operation Moving Traffic initiative has already generated discussion about smarter ways to more efficiently move people, goods and services on our roads and public transport networks,” he says.
“The recent budget includes money for a raft of transport improvements including continued investment in bike boulevards and greenways, investing in station security and amenity upgrades, and a major roads stimulus package.
“We encourage as many people as possible to come along to this event and find out more about our plans in these and other transport areas.”
