NZs double-decker purchase

NZ Bus invests in 23 new double-decker buses to up capacity of network and meet growth

NZ Bus has purchased 23 new double-deckers to be used throughout metropolitan Auckland.

The investment will increase the capacity of the bus network by a significant margin and see that the growing demand for fast, effective public transport is met.

NZ Bus chief executive Zane Fulljames says the addition of the new buses demonstrates its commitment to supporting Auckland Transport’s goals in transforming the entire public transport network.

“Our investment in the new double-decker buses not only reflects our partnership with Auckland Transport to deliver its plans for increasing patronage across the Auckland’s public transport network, but also emphasises our focus on providing safe, reliable and comfortable journeys for our customers,” he says.

Fifteen of the buses will be used along popular Mt Eden Road routes, and eight buses will service route 881 on the North Shore.

With both of these corridors experiencing passenger growth, the introduction of double-decker buses and an additional 30 per cent capacity is expected to help generate even more growth.

“With nearly 700 buses travelling over 26 million kilometres and carrying over 39 million passengers in the Auckland region during the last year, the new buses will help us to further deliver value for our customers and partners,” Fulljames says.

“The introduction of double deckers is an exciting step for our business, customers and staff, and we are working hard to ensure a seamless launch.”
