More park & ride for NSW

More car parks for those who catch bus at Sutherland Transport Interchange south of Sydney

More park and ride facilities will be established at a key public transport hub on Sydney’s southern fringe.

The new multi-storey car park in Sutherland has a capacity of 388 and opened on July 6.

NSW minister for transport and infrastructure Andrew Constance says the addition will make public transport an option for hundreds more of those needing to commute a considerable distance into Sydney’s CBD and inner suburbs.

“This is fantastic news for the community and public transport customers that access Sutherland Station,” he says.

“It also builds on the huge investment that has already been undertaken at Sutherland, including improvements to the Sutherland Transport Interchange and a new lift installed on Platform 1 of Sutherland Station last year.”

The car park will provide almost 50 more commuter spaces than what was initially planned.

Miranda Shire MP Eleni Petinos says so many people work in the Sydney city limits and rely heavily on public transport services to get them to their jobs, but faced a logistical nightmare in finding somewhere to park to connect with these services.

“We know a lack of parking around stations is a big issue which is why we leave no stone unturned when it comes to delivering as many spaces as possible,” she says.

The car park features a lift, stairs, signage, lighting and CCTV cameras and is funded by the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program – an initiative that aims to deliver accessible, modern, and integrated transport infrastructure.

The NSW Budget increased funding for the program and $890 million will be invested over the next four years.
