Public transport workshop

A marketing master class for those in the public transport industry will be held on May 5 in Brisbane

Those with an interest in public transport marketing are encouraged to attend a workshop in Brisbane next month.

International Association of Public Transport Australia and New Zealand (UITPANZ) is hosting the public transport master class, with a focus on marketing in Brisbane on Tuesday, May 5.

UITPANZ spokesperson Rob Pearce says those who do attend stand to learn a lot, with some exceptional keynote speakers presenting, as well as a chance to network with others in the industry.

“We will examine best practice both locally and internationally, look at different aspects of marketing and branding for public transport and discuss some of the key concepts and innovations that have been made in this field,” he says.

“We will discuss marketing for patronage growth, ways to provide customers with better information, influencing behaviour change and promoting safety.

“It will also provide an excellent forum for exchange between government, operators, suppliers and industry.

“Master classes are a good way for the industry as a whole to understand and learn from each other on a range of topics, including marketing, in order to improve public transport across Australia and New Zealand.”

Public transport providers are always looking at ways they can market themselves better and this master class is designed to help them do just that.

“This topic is highly relevant to the work of authorities and operators across Australia and New Zealand.  It also specifically responds to feedback we received through our member survey,” Pearce says.

“Public Transport authorities and providers are increasingly using different social media platforms in marketing area and the Master Class will cover many examples of this.”

Confirmed speakers include Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads acting executive director customer experience Wietske Smith, Transport NSW deputy director-general customer experience division Tony Braxton-Smith, Public Transport Victoria director customer experience Alan Fedda and ACT Municipal Services senior manager of marketing, communications and customer experience Nicola Woolham.

“We are honoured to have so many knowledgeable speakers, from a broad range of different organisations and backgrounds,” Pearce says.

Registration is open until the end of April, but places are limited. Those interested can email Odin Kelly at anz.uitp@uitp.org or call 07 3066 1674.
