Ownership change for UBC

UBC Commercial Vehicles has been acquired by an Australian company to secure ongoing production

Malaysia based UBC Commercial Vehicles has changed ownership with the new business to operate under a 10-year plan.

New UBC Commercial Vehicles (Australia) chief executive officer John Morris took ownership of the business on March 18.

Morris has an engineering and business background, and is currently listed as the managing director of Coffeys EMS on his LinkedIn profile.

He will inject funds into UBC as part of a 10-year plan after the company has experienced a period of uncertainty.

The plan includes additional infrastructure, training and expansion into new market sectors through their global growth strategy.

“I am delighted to have acquired UBC Commercial Vehicles (Malaysia) through our Australian business unit and commenced a journey to develop UBC and transition it into a globally recognised partner of choice for bus, coach and specialist vehicle design and manufacturing,” says Morris.

“My philosophy on business management is protect, grow, and widen and I am committed to organisational excellence which is recognised as the overall way of working that results in balanced stakeholder satisfaction so increasing the probability of long term success as an organisation.”

UBC will have an administration office, technical and spare parts facility located in numerous operations centres throughout Australia to co-ordinate shipping, distribution and after sales service and parts supply.

The supplier has worked closely with Daewoo Bus and Hino Bus developing bus bodies specifically for Australia, and the association with these two companies will continue with production beginning March.

The first vehicle deliveries under the new ownership are expected to arrive in April.

Chiron Commercial Vehicles were the previous owner and importer of UBC bus bodies built in Malaysia but is no longer associated with UBC.
